On the occasion of Women’s Day, we caught up with Pooja Sahai on what inspires her, and her views and ideas as a woman in the field of design. We hope you enjoy this tête-à-tête!
Berger Paints India: What inspires you to think creatively and fuels you to ‘paint your imagination’? (Paint your imagination is Berger Paints’ tagline).
Pooja Sahai: Nature. My morning walk, holidays and books. Situations that are challenging design, solution wise.
Berger Paints India: Which is your favourite project till date? Tell us more about it.
Pooja Sahai: A work space for ‘tmi’ which not only had to reflect the work done by the team which is very technical in nature but also be a reflection of the free-spirited nature of the owner. All this within a very strict timeline,.
Berger Paints India: How do you achieve work-life balance?
Pooja Sahai: I take it a day at time. Sorting my priorities works the best for me.
Berger Paints India: Who is your favourite woman in the world of design/architecture?
Pooja Sahai: Zaha Hadid and Coco Chanel.
Berger Paints India: Which design trend are you most excited about?
Pooja Sahai: The eclectic trend, which is always around.
Berger Paints India: How does it feel to be a women architect/interior designer amongst male counterparts?
Pooja Sahai: I believe that this has been a profession where ability and sincerity play a bigger role than gender . So yes very comfortable.
Berger Paints India: Do you think interior design is a gender-dominated vocation?
Pooja Sahai: The world is constantly changing. I remember a Song from a Bollywood movie called hum tum quoting how if a woman has nothing better to do she becomes an ‘interior decorator’.Its all about gender fluidity now. Design envelopes everybody and everything.

Pooja Sahai: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. The Art of Looking Sideways by Alan Fletcher.
