While most people claim to be dreaming in colour, roughly 12% of people say they dream only in black and white! It is interesting to note that in many studies where dreamers have been woken up and asked to pick colours from a chart that match those in their dreams, they have all chosen soft pastel colours! Also fascinating is the fact that people who are under the age of 25 rarely report dreaming in black and white. It has been observed that those over the age of 55, report black and white dreams about 25% of the time. According to studies, it is believed that this difference exists owing to exposure to black and white television. This idea is supported by an older study that revealed that people in the 1940s very rarely reported dreaming in colour!

Did you know that no single wavelength of light appears pink? That’s right! Pink requires a blend of red and purple light—colours from opposite ends of the visible spectrum to appear. Easy enough to say but they don't get together, which makes pink an act of wishful thinking, or, to put it bluntly—making pink a made-up colour! If you love pink, how about flaunting your love for it with a pink accent wall in your next hall painting project!

Shattuckite

This vivid blue gemstone is known as Shattuckite. A rare copper mineral, it is named after the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee, Arizona where it was first discovered. It is occasionally formed within the Quartz crystals right below the top layer. Shattuckite is considered a stone of intuition and psychic abilities. This copper silicate is believed to bring clarity to the mind, heart and throat, strengthening one’s ability to speak with honesty. Mottled in pattern, it looks as if water paint has been applied over it for a watercolour effect! When polished the right way, Shattuckite forms patterns of red and blue looking elegant and beautiful!

Eudialyte

Discovered in 1819 by F. Stromeyer in the Julianehaab district of Greenland, this beautiful gemstone is called Eudialyte. Its name is derived from the Greek phrase “eu dialytos”, meaning "well decomposable" or “easily dissolvable”. It is a rare cyclosilicate mineral flaunting distinctive colours of red-violet magenta, red, pink, blue, yellow and an attractive brown. Eudialyte has gained the nickname of “The stone of the heartland” due to its connection to the energies of unconditional love and its ability to root such energies into the Earth plane through feelings, thoughts and manifestations.

Cosmos

The pretty flower that you are looking at is known as Cosmos. It is an annual flower that sits atop long, slender stems. The flower comes in vibrant colours such as pink, red, yellow, orange and white. It has a height of about 6 feet and has a ferny foliage of extremely delicate texture. Growing easily from seeds, Cosmos even survives in poor soil conditions! Cosmos grows in both beds as well as containers. Ideal as decorations, it also makes great cut flowers. It is perfect for attracting bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and enticing insects in the garden. We think it would be a lovely idea to pay a beautiful ode to the Cosmos flower using it as a house colour.

Rainbow Grasshopper

What you are looking at is called the Rainbow Grasshopper and no, the colours on the body of the creature are not photoshopped! It was first mentioned in the year 1843 by the German entomologist Toussaint de Charpentier. Interestingly, this insect goes by many names such as Dactylotum bicolour, painted grasshopper or the barber pole grasshopper. It is a species of grasshopper in the family Acrididae. It is found in the United States, Northern Mexico and Canada. This insect displays aposematism that means warning colouration. A wonder of nature, it does not possess wings and lacks the ability to fly, unlike its other counterparts!
