Colours & Gems For December 2022

Multi Colour Beads Bracelet
  1. Blue Stone

    Bloodstone

This gem that you are looking at is called Bloodstone or Martyr’s Gem. It is Green Jasper with iron oxide impurities that cause brilliant red spots that look like splattered blood. During the ancient times, it was revered as a symbol of the setting sun casting its fiery red over the green ocean. It was also believed that this stone caused the water to turn red, which in turn, made the sun red, giving it the power to impact the weather! That’s not all. This gem is believed to enrich the blood, calm the mind and increase the consciousness of the wearer. You can try a paint combination of green and red in any wall of your room for a gem-inspired look.

  2. Amethyst Purple Stone

    Lepidolite

The beautiful gemstone in the picture is called Lepidolite. First discovered in the 19th century by Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff, this stone was first named Lilalite owing to its soft radiant colouring but was later renamed as Lepidolite from the Greek word 'Lepidos' which translates to scale, a name that pays homage to the dragon-like texture of this dreamy, high-fantasy feeling stone. This gem is believed to help with emotional balance and bring inner peace. It is also considered a strong purification tool that dispels negativity. Apart from that, it is also a calming stone and is believed to cure sleep disorders, reduce stress, tackle mood swings and depression.

Small Kingfisher
  1. Dwarf Kingfisher

    Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher

This little birdie that you are looking at is known as the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher. Also known as the black-backed kingfisher or the three-toed kingfisher, it is easily recognised by its bright blue crown with a violet wash along on the sides of its otherwise orange head. The upper plumage is bluish-black with glossy blue lines. It has a white throat with bright orange-coloured lines underneath. The under plumage is a striking orangey-yellow. The bill and feet are orangey-red. Interestingly, the males and females look alike. It resides in the south-western areas of the Indian-subcontinent, especially in densely-shaded forests and hills. Apart from having an exotic name, this bird also has nests in the shape of horizontal tunnels that can range up to a metre in length. Fascinating, isn’t it?

  2.  Purple Flowers

    Spiderwort

The beautiful wildflowers photographed here are known as Spiderwort. The three-petalled spiderwort flowers are usually blue to purple, but may also be pink, white or red. They only remain open for a day, blooming in the morning hours and closing at night, but the multiple flowers continually bloom for up to four to six weeks in the summer months. While they grow in every soil, it is ideal to grow them in moist soil. Our colour experts believe that the colours of the flowers are perfect to set up an aesthetic bedroom. You can derive inspiration from them and get your bedroom walls painted in these hues!
