Colour Facts For February 2023
When we think of our planet thousands of years ago, we imagine it in a black and white, colour-less look. But did you know that pink is the oldest surviving pigment found on earth? Researchers and scientists recently found pink pigments that could have survived 1.1 billion years underground within rocks beneath the Sahara Desert in the Taoudeni Basin of Mauritania, West Africa. The naturally occuring pink colour pigments of the oldest colour in the geological record came from an ancient algae, whose molecules are said to have survived trapped inside oil shale deposits. Fascinating, right?
When we think of the colour pink, flamingos come to mind. Every winter, these birds are spotted in Mumbai, Thane and surrounding areas. They migrate from states such as Rajasthan and Gujarat as well as countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and even Israel. If you have ever wondered what gives these birds bright pink feathers, it is because of carotene in their food like algae, plankton, shrimp and crustaceans. Carotene is the same pigment that makes carrots orange and tomatoes red. When it comes to flamingo chicks, they are born grey or white with fluffier plumage to keep them warm. It can take more than three years to achieve mature pink, red or orange plumage!

Colour Tips For February 2023
If you want your living space to look more dynamic, instead of painting all walls in one paint colour, consider painted arch wall paint ideas. This gives the opportunity to accentuate how we style our homes using minimal space and objects. Rounded circles and arches are super popular right now making appearances in professionally-designed homes and Insta-worthy bedrooms alike, bringing life to boring walls and giving spaces a retro vibe. Painted arches can also help differentiate areas within the same room that offer different purposes— like a living room with a painted arch as it transitions into a home office.
If you have gone paint shopping and been unpleasantly surprised by the undertones when choosing interior paint colours, you are not alone. Undertones are the colours lurking beneath your chosen wall colour. Because of this, a simple white or beige may not look how you imagine it to be if it has a strong blue undertone. The only way to accurately tell how an undertone will appear in your home is to sample the wall colour. So, before you commit to a paint call, ensure you sample it on the walls of your home since undertones from other surfaces in your room and the lighting can change the way your paint appears due to reflection.
If you are in the process of designing a room in your home or painting different rooms, creating a colour story can serve as a true inspiration. But what exactly is a colour story? Think of it as a colour scheme that will guide you in choosing the right colour palette for your home. This is done using a mix of paint colour, decor, accent pieces and furniture. However, your colour story must not limit you, it is fine to stray from the palette, especially if you wish to introduce new, exciting hues in the mix!
