Camouflage is derived from the French word 'camoufler' which quite literally means “to disguise.” Military camouflage is the use of the camouflage pattern by the armed forces to safeguard their personnel and equipment from the enemy forces. The camouflage pattern’s journey from combat to couture is difficult to pinpoint. In the western context, the Vietnam War is when this clothing pattern became significant and popular. By the 1980s, military style was woven into the American life. Today, camouflage clothing is used mostly for outdoor activities such as trekking, hiking and rock climbing or even as a print on the fashion runway from top couture brands.
