Thanksgiving is a day to invite all your friends and family to enjoy good food, indulge in gaiety and be thankful for all that you have been blessed with. Initially, the festival was a celebration of being grateful for a good harvest. The festivity earlier stretched over a few days but was later reduced to one official holiday by the church.
Today, Thanksgiving has come to be synonymous with wonderfully delicious food, delectable aromas wafting through the air and warm enveloping colours. Food is one of the most important factors on this day as friends and family bond over good food and drinks. The dining table on this day is a mix of various colours with brown being the most predominant colour.
Brown provides an inviting feel to the meal and is used abundantly ranging from perfectly roasted golden brown turkeys to browned bread generously slathered with butter. Rich chocolate is also a widely used as a decorating item, as well as freshly baked chocolate cakes. The second most popular colour on the palette is orange with pumpkin being the absolute favourite for pumpkin pies and other preparations. Then there are the carrot cakes and sweet potato casseroles which take the orange coloured theme further.
Orange is also a prominent colour used as it is a cheery colour and adds a vibe of excitement and happiness to the ambience. Fall foliage or dried orange flower arrangements are used as décor, ensuring that there is enough orange around. Corn is also a major food item which brings some yellow colour to the table. You can easily spot a buttery yellow coloured corn pudding, corn bread and peach dishes on a Thanksgiving table.
A bright red is also an intrinsic part of the Thanksgiving palette and occurs majorly through the presence of plump red cranberries and apples. Cranberry sauces are a staple on this day and cranberry is also often used as a marinade, sauce or juice.
Now on to the decoration, which is a very fancy one given that it is a major festival. Generally, the décor reflects the season and the colour of the dishes on the table. It is best to embrace autumnal hues to enhance the warm, festive ambience. Set the mood for this special occasion with coloured candles, dried flower arrangements, rusty red cushions on your sofa and if possible, try coordinating your wall art as well.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
