Festivals are not just events that bring in the right dose of merriment and joy in our lives; they can also be used to realise our inner strength and boost our overall well-being. In recent years, the concept of wellness festivals has gained an upward trend. With events like the BaliSpirit festival, people from all over the world gather to take home enriching experiences, filling all your senses – spiritually and emotionally.
Speaking of health and fitness, what is the first thing that comes to your mind in your daily regime that takes care of your well-being? Many of us will agree that Yoga is the most common element in daily health regimes across nations. At BaliSpirit, Yoga does constitute a very essential component of a healthy ambience. However, it is a lot more than that. The festival takes place at Ubud, a picturesque town in Bali, which is also known as the centre for traditional and cultural activities in Indonesia. So, as it already suggests, the activities here never disappoint you – activities that enable spiritual upliftment with sound physical health.
This festival is the brain child of Meghan Pappenheim, a restaurateur in Bali, who originally hails from New York. Besides running restaurants, Meghan is also the creator of the Yoga Barn. The primary thought behind starting this festival is to form a community that connects people from various backgrounds and unites them with the magical ambiance of Bali. Being a part of this gala, you happen to be in the cultural hub of a nation; so, why not take some time out to participate in music workshops and classes, or visit the famous temples and shrines that adorn the town and gain food for your soul. As for food for the body, there are also nutrition workshops that you can attend. With separate venues for day and night activities, the range of entertainment is as wide as you can imagine.
In addition to everything, there is good scope for everyone to try out a number of traditional healing procedures and treatments here. The festival, as a whole, fulfils the main vision of its creator, which is the Balinese Hindu concept of “Tri Hita Karana” or God, Community and Nature all in harmony. This social extravaganza also supports the cause of spreading awareness about HIV and AIDS, besides contributing to Bali’s environmental conservation. So, pack your bags to witness a festival that makes you gain in all aspects – socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
