Boosting Your Building’s Energy Efficiency Performance
The thermal protection of both existing and new buildings can be effectively achieved by using the thermal insulation externally. When talking about external wall insulation systems and the linked top-coat renders, we refer to them as ETICS or External Thermal Insulation & Composite Systems.
ETICS conforms to a set of globally acknowledged standards which take into account the procedures and installation techniques related with the systems. These standards were historically established in Europe, but have since blowout to all the parts of the globe. The system contains components including the insulation materials (EPS Board or Mineral Wool), layer of adhesive, mechanical fasteners, a reinforced layer with fibre glass mesh and the top coat finish renders.
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) consists of two substances; polystyrene, a solid substance, which makes only 2% of its volume. Other substance is air, which makes as much as 98% of its volume. The air is trapped within millions of small hollow cells and the polystyrene (EPS) provides extremely thin walls for the cells. This makes foamed polystyrene a perfect insulator with a low thermal conductivity of k= 0.035 W/m.K.
Main raw material is basalt and recycled materials. The wool is manufactured by melting a mixture of raw materials in temperature of about 1400 °C. The fibre materials that are formed are bonded using a special resin, water repellent agents are added and then the boards are moulded.
