The French summer gets even hotter with the most glamorous, creative and colourful film festival in the world – the Festival International du Film or the Cannes Film Festival. All the good things in life come together and delight your senses, similar to the sensory experiences offered by colours! A favourite of Coco Chanel, Cannes beaches are blessed with the best sunset views. Plages du Midi and de la Boca turn into runways with beautiful people strutting in their most vivid and flamboyant outfits!
Looking back in time, the International Film Festival was created by Jean Zay, Minister for Education and Fine Arts, who was keen to establish an international cultural event in France to rival the Venice Film Festival.
The first edition of the Festival was originally set to be held in Cannes in 1939 under the presidency of Louis Lumière. Subsequently, it was held every September – except in 1948 and 1950 – and then every May from 1952 onwards.
Apart from all the rich colours of cultures coming together via the medium of films, you can expect a mélange of hues you would only find during a festival! Basking in the sun-kissed glory that is la Croisette, the energy of the artists, their vibrant entourages, the red carpet, and rosé wines are some of the distinct shades that create a unique pallet indigenous of the festival.
We’re now less than a few days away from the start of this year’s Cannes Film Festival! So don’t forget to tune in and cherish the memories of this colourful journey that will hold a special spot in your heart. Nostalgia will pull all the shades and burst your senses with images full of the pink bougainvillea and ombre sunsets. And just like that, without a passport and visa, you will be transported to the French Riviera!
